  • This position is 35 hours per week, first shift Monday – Friday 7:00 am - 2:00 pm.

    MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution is a level 4/5, high/maximum security level multi-mission correctional facility for adult males. The MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution provides a highly structured environment to manage long-term sentenced offenders, protective custody offenders and high bond unsentenced offenders with programs designed to address the needs of each population. The facility focuses on education both academic (ABE, Pre-GED, GED, Special Education, TSOL), and at the MacDougall Building (Vocational Maintenance, Electro Mechanical, Micro Computers, Electronic Repair, Dental, and Commercial Cleaning). Programming is also a vital component of our mission and includes Parenting Skills, Sex Offender Treatment, Family Issues, Beyond Fear, Addiction Services, Aftercare and Fellowship AA/NA meetings.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In a state facility or institution, this class is accountable for performing technical radiographic procedures.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    Performs a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis; produces radiographs; positions individuals; provides immobilization devices; selects proper technical factors on an individual basis; selects and operates equipment as directed; develops film by automatic and manual processing; provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards; practices sterile techniques and applies infection control policies; maintains adequate records; maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work area; secures and returns special equipment; assists physician in administering opaque media; assists in performing first aid as necessary; may be responsible for delegated areas or performance of special procedures; may perform preventive maintenance and quality assurance measurement of equipment; may operate patient monitoring equipment such as an electrocardiograph; performs related duties as required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    Knowledge of radiographic procedures and equipment; knowledge of radiographic film processing techniques; knowledge of infection control policies and procedures; familiarity with individual monitoring equipment; interpersonal skills; ability to exercise independent judgment as needed in individual cases; ability to follow oral and written instructions.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    Must meet requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists and hold current Connecticut state license.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience working with Correctional or Forensic population.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Incumbents in this class may be required to lift and position individuals and may be exposed to radiation, moderately disagreeable conditions and occasionally to infectious and/or communicable diseases.
