Stony Brook University Theater & Audio Visual Technician in Stony Brook, New York

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Associate's degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree). In lieu of an Associate's degree, two (2) years of directly related full-time on-the-job professional experience or a combination of education and experience totaling two (2) years may be considered. One (1) year of full-time directly related on-the-job professional experience or internship. Familiarity with at least one (1) of the following: stage electrics and theatrical lighting design; audio systems for live events; video and projection equipment; or stage management.Preferred Qualifications:
Two (2) or more years of advanced professional work experience. Experience in one or more of the following areas: experience in training other technicians; stage electrics and theatrical lighting design; audio systems for live events; video and projection equipment; stage management.Brief Description of Duties:
Candidates will set up and operate audio-visual equipment including projectors, sound systems, video monitors, and theatrical lighting. In addition to providing assistance in the various meeting rooms and lecture halls, the audio-visual technicians will also support events in the Charles B. Wang Theater.

  • Assist Production Manager in the execution of audio, video, or lighting systems for events (e.g. programming lights; creating lighting looks; mixing sound). At times, serve as lead technician and/or stage manager.
  • Maintain advanced audio-visual and theatrical equipment (e.g. focusing lights; upkeep and minor repairs).
  • Assist Production Manager in providing job specific training for student assistants.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a part-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.Evening and weekend work will be required at times.
