Position Description

Operation Identification (https://www.txst.edu/anthropology/facts/Services/opid.html) , a program that operates within theForensic Anthropology Center (https://www.txst.edu/anthropology/facts/) at Texas State University is seeking a full-time postdoctoral scholar for a position in humanitarian forensic anthropology for one year, renewable for two additional years pending job performance.

The successful candidate will be tasked with forensic anthropology casework predominately representing presumed deceased migrants and include processing human remains and personal effects, overall case management, supervising exhumations of unidentified human remains, supervising NamUs data entry, DNA sample collection and submission to CODIS and private laboratories, working with governmental and nongovernmental organizations, and community outreach. The position is subject to the availability of funds.

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. degree in anthropology at the time of appointment.

  • Experience conducting forensic anthropology casework and report writing.

  • Experience working in a transnational or international framework with missing and unidentified persons.

  • Archaeology experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a forensic anthropology laboratory.

  • Experience processing human remains.

  • Experience processing personal effects.

  • Experience in team leadership and project management.

  • Experience exhuming unidentified human remains.

  • Experience DNA sampling from recently deceased individuals and skeletal remains.

  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in a laboratory setting.

  • Experience with field and specimen photography.

  • Commitment to working with underserved communities.
