Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple concurrent projects, meet deadlines, and produce grant deliverables; highly organized.

  • Ability to work alone and with internal and multi-organizational teams to complete projects.

  • Experience working on small farms or with small farmers, ideally in Texas.

  • General understanding of farm support agencies and organizations in the state of Texas.

  • Ability to design surveys, conduct interviews, analyze data, and write results professionally for project evaluation.

  • Comfortable with MS Office suite and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom).

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; comfortable speaking to groups of producers or other stakeholders about the project and program.

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Grant writing and/or management experience.

  • Knowledge of the Texas small farming community.

  • Conference or event planning experience.

  • Master’s degree in agriculture or related field.

Job Description

Responsible for providing administrative direction to the Small Producer Initiative’s ( SPI ) grants and developing new proposals to further SPI’s mission.

Job Duties

  • Coordinate annual conference, virtual workshops, and other relevant programming for target audience (Texas beginning farmers) with staff and partners.

  • Ensure administrative functions of grants are performed properly; delegate duties to administrative staff as needed.

  • Develop plans to administer the grant goals, and ensure budget is properly monitored.

  • Communicate regularly with Program Director, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, funding agency representatives, and project partners to coordinate successful implementation of grant.

  • Train and supervise grant coordinators and administrative staff on assigned projects.

  • Collect and analyze data for program evaluation and original research outcomes.

  • Develop content for fliers, publications, press releases, training materials and/or other written materials.

  • Manage SPI email account, email newsletter/listserv, website, and social media, and to delegate to other staff as needed.

  • Assist Program Director with grant reporting.

  • As much as possible, write articles for professional journals based on evaluative research.

  • Work collaboratively on grant proposals for further research and activities.

  • Speak to individuals and/or groups about the goals of the grant and SPI’s activities; present and attend conferences and other professional events as needed.

  • Perform other duties as required.
