State of Utah - Jobs Public Information Officer I in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Department of Environmental Quality is looking to fill a Public Information Officer. Principal Duties

  • Independently draft written content for blog articles,press releases,social media posts,brochures,fact sheets,infographics,slide decks or other projects as assigned. 
  • Take pictures and video for issue-related projects,stakeholder outreach events,and other communications and marketing opportunities.
  • Assist with writing annual communications plans and seasonal campaigns.
  • Assist in editing the work of others to ensure all published work supports the brand and marketing strategies of DEQ and conforms to adopted style guides.
  • Assist with updates to DEQ's website using our WordPress Content Management System.
  • Assist is preparing leaders and subject matter experts for media and other public appearances.
  • Act as the primary contact for media inquiries.     

*Ideal Candidate *

  • Strong writing,editing,and proofreading skills.
  • Experience in media relations,public relations,communications or marketing.
  • Strong understanding of social media strategies with professional experience managing social media channels.
  • Awareness of other agency communications activities,ability and willingness to research best practices.
  • Staunch attention to detail.
  • Experience with videography and photography.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud Suite applications: Premiere and Photoshop
  • Ability to balance work on several projects at a time.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Preferences Preference may be given to those with a Bachelors or advanced degree in applicable area of study,with at least one or more years of experience in public relations,communications or marketing,OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and paid professional employment directly related to the above tasks. Work Location This position may be eligible for an in-office,remote or hybrid/flexible work schedule after an initial training period or several weeks of in-office training during the first few months of employment. Our office is located 195 North 1950 West,Salt Lake City,Utah. A position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.  Note: Under Administrative Rule R13-4 all work must be performed within the State of Utah.
