Hillside Family of Agencies Registered Dietician in Rochester, New York

As a Registered Dietitian, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing comprehensive nutrition care plans for individuals and groups. Your role will involve conducting nutrition assessments, providing evidence-based nutrition education, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal health outcomes.

This will be a Full-time position, Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Essential Job functions

  • Accountable for the nutrition care of youth residing at Hillside within the residential treatment programs. Oversight of nutrition care for children/youth in other programs may be required as needed.

  • Conduct nutrition assessments of Hillside youth by using accurate and relevant data and information to identify nutrition-related problems.

  • Identify appropriate, purposefully planned interventions that are designed with the intent of changing or supporting unique nutrition needs using the assessment data for Hillside youth found to be at nutritional risk.

  • Document nutrition care statements that are clear, concise, specific to youth as appropriate, accurate, and based on reliable, accurate data and according to the documentation requirements outlined in established Hillside policy and procedures.

  • Collaborate with nurses, clinicians, and other pertinent members of the interdisciplinary treatment team using the documented information as well as attending treatment meetings or health rounds when indicated and appropriate.

  • Perform appropriate and identified nutrition interventions or assign the nutrition care that others provide in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

  • Conduct nutrition monitoring and evaluation: identify important measures of change for youth outcomes relevant to the nutrition diagnosis and nutrition intervention and describes how best to measure these outcomes.

  • Participate in scheduled meetings with the Nutrition and Food Service team, as an active member of the Menu Development Committee (i.e. Nutrition & Food Service leaders, and Kitchen Supervisors) and participate in staff and youth special events that involve nutrition/food on the campus.

  • Assist with the creation of menus that provide meals and snacks that meet regulatory requirements: The Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

  • Develop therapeutic menus for youth who require therapeutic nutrition care, such as allergies or a therapeutic diet order. Purchasing of food at a supermarket may be required in certain circumstances to manage the therapeutic diet.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, Food Service Systems Management or a related area of study and 1+ years of experience in clinical, behavioral, or school food service programs.

Special Requirements:

  • Unrestricted, valid NYS driver’s license for minimum of 1 year with a clean driving record and minimum insurance coverage that meets agency standards.

  • Registered Dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration

  • Knowledge of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Standards of Practice and Standards of Professional Performance in Behavioral Health Care.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Standards of Professional Performance.

  • Ability to provide quality services based on youth expectations and needs.

  • Skilled at teaching others the concepts pertaining to nutrition and food service.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills: logic and reasoning used to identify strengths/weaknesses of alternate solutions, conclusions, and approaches to the problem, including ability to research to enhance practices.

  • The following physical demands are required:

  • Sitting, Standing, Walking, Driving, Balancing, Talking, Reaching, Sense of Balance (up to 6 hours)

  • Visual Acuity, Hearing, Touch Sensitivity, Manual manipulation, Typing/keyboarding (continuous)

  • Crawling, Climbing, Bending/Stooping, Kneeling/Squatting, Lifting, pushing, pulling, and/or carrying up to 20 lbs. (up to 2 hours)

  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, and/or carrying 21-50 lbs. (up to 2 hours)

  • Work outdoors with exposure to heat and/or cold (up to 2 hours)

  • Manual dexterity is required, including the frequent ability to grasp in both hands and continuous use of fine manipulation skills in both hands (approximately 1-2.5 hrs.)

  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, gases or chemicals is apparent.

  • Protective clothing or equipment as required: close toed shoes; protective shields, universal precaution PPE, and gloves for toileting and food preparation.

  • Ability to change positions as needed.

    $24.97 Minimum Rate per hour, $37.45 Maximum Rate per hour, based on experience.
