The Department of Surgery and the James P. Wilmot Cancer Institute at the University of Rochester Medical Center located in Rochester, NY seeks a full-time faculty member to join the Division of Surgical Oncology. This faculty member will be expected to specialize in the management of melanoma, sarcoma, and other soft tissue malignancies. Candidates must be BE/BC in General Surgery and have completed a Complex Surgical Oncology Fellowship. Opportunities for leadership of multi-disciplinary melanoma and sarcoma disease working groups are possible.

The Wilmot Cancer Institute serves as the cancer research hub of a 27-county area in Central and Western New York. Wilmot serves a distinct population in a catchment area confronted with a cancer incidence significantly above national averages, due to a disproportionately aging population, tobacco addiction, and challenges of predominantly poor and urban and rural demographics. Wilmot Cancer Institute is the major strategic priority for the University of Rochester Medical Center, which invested more than $200 million in cancer research and programs over the past 12 years.

Desirable candidates will possess a strong commitment to patient care, resident and medical student education, and research. It is expected that candidates will have an interest in developing a robust clinical practice in addition to a research program. Opportunities in clinical/translational or health services research are available commensurate with the candidate’s research background.

The U of R is located in Rochester, New York and is surrounded by world class culture, affordable housing and nationally ranked public schools. The City of Rochester is a mecca for the arts: home to a philharmonic orchestra, wonderful museums including the Strong National Museum of Play, internationally recognized dance companies as well as The Eastman School of Music. The Rochester International Jazz Festival is one of the top 10 Jazz festivals in the nation. The region boasts access to great watersports both on Lake Ontario as well as the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes region is also home to many internationally known wineries. Rochester has a rich history and was the last step on the underground railroad and the place Frederick Douglas called home. It is also the location of the Susan B. Anthony House making Rochester the epicenter of the woman’s suffrage movement.
