Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the head coach in effectively recruiting qualified and talented student-athletes from a global perspective. Provide a leadership role in contact and follow-up with all potential student-athletes. Cultivate a good rapport with high school coaches and area club organizations. Organize, plan and direct recruits on their campus visits. Possess an understanding of current NCAA recruiting rules and regulations. Monitor the eligibility of incoming first year student-athletes, while collaborating with the Athletic Department’s compliance officer regarding status of these student-athletes.

  • Assist the head coach with strategic planning and implementation of team practice plans while providing a productive teaching environment for practice plans and implementation. Provide a leadership role in strength & conditioning coordination with department head strength & conditioning coach. Coaching responsibilities will also consist of: individual skill development, roster management and equipment coordination/setup for all teams.

  • Assist the head coach with meet preparations and coaching. Provide analysis and feedback to head coach before, during and after competition. Communicate with all coaches during meet regarding individual and team performance observations and suggestions.

  • Assist the head coach with individual player development and coordinate team development opportunities. Provide a leadership role in required team programming from the NCAA and RIT compliance offices.

  • Assist the head coach with advisement/mentorship of student-athletes in all aspects of their student-athlete experience at RIT. Serve as a positive role model for the student-athletes at all times. Maintain effective communication with team members and utilize effective motivational techniques. Attend professional development opportunities when available.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 1-2 years coaching experience (preferable at the college level)

  • Ability to effectively communicate, problem solve, react under pressure.

  • Ability to foster relations with internal staff and student-athletes.

  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive and/or private records and information, protects information appropriately.

  • Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communications skills, including the ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural groups.

  • Computer proficiency using software and enterprise systems appropriate for the complexities of the role and its functions,

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Playing experience at the college level.

  • Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn.

Reporting to the head coach for a specific sport in RIT Athletics, the assistant coach is responsible for assisting the head coach with the planning, development and the supervision of the program. These responsibilities include assisting the head coach, but are not limited to, the following areas: recruitment of academically qualified and talented student-athletes, planning and supervision of practice sessions, preparation of meet plans and coaching as assigned, player development programs, advisement/mentorship of student-athletes and maintaining a working knowledge and adherence with NCAA and league rules and regulations.
