Job Description:

The Pharmacy Technician Specialist works as a system-level pharmacy technician supporting internal process control, medication policy, automation and technology, 340B, licensing and credentialing, scheduling and timekeeping, and other areas as defined by system pharmacy leadership. The incumbent participates in activities that ensure Intermountain Pharmacy Services are compliant with policies, procedures, laws, and rules associated with specific area's specialty. This position provides a high level of service to facilities and supports programs associated with their role. The incumbent serves as a lead on specific job essentials as assigned.

This position will generally work M-F 8-4:30 PM and be remote work from home but will require time every week at our specialty pharmacies and will require travel for audits.

The position supports Pharmacy Services at the highest level and provides guidance and feedback to help facilities maintain perpetual compliance and consistency throughout Intermountain Healthcare. Individual assignments will be managed the System Pharmacy Director. Travels to relevant facilities to provide on-site collaboration and partnership.

Job Essentials

Establishes and maintains positive relationships with facility representatives (pharmacy and non-pharmacy) throughout the system and supports applicable programs. Communicates results of auditing or project-based activities in an open and constructive manner.

Acts as a pharmacy technician representative during facility audits, program audits, or pharmacy projects. Maintains thorough knowledge of the subject matter associated with their role (e.g., The Joint Commission or other accreditation standards, 340B regulations, automation and technology standards, and operational policies and procedures). Travels to relevant facilities and participates in activities and audits. Documents observations and corrective action plans and provides support for facilities efforts to reach and maintain perpetual compliance and consistency.

Participates in review and revision of applicable policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures for their specialty.

Supports facility and system Pharmacy Services throughout Intermountain Healthcare. Travels to facilities as needed to ensure perpetual compliance and consistency.

Participates in system-level quality improvement activities and seeks a system approach to developing and achieving best practices and processes.

Provides expertise, leadership, and support to facility and system caregivers in their specialty area. Practices in a unique, specialized area at the system level as defined by pharmacy leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current pharmacy technician license in the state of practice.

  • National Pharmacy Technician certification.

  • Five years of experience in a role utilizing mastery of pharmacy technician skills with an emphasis on knowledge of medications used in an inpatient, ambulatory care, or community pharmacy setting.

  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, e-mail, and scheduling applications.

    • and -
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

  • Ten years of work experience in an inpatient hospital, ambulatory care, or community pharmacy setting.

  • Completion of 340B University for 340B positions.

    • and -
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, URAC, or ACHC accreditation standards for Internal Process Control positions.

    • and -
  • Knowledge of pharmacy automation systems for automation and technology positions.

    • and -
  • Knowledge of various state requirements for licensing and credentialing positions.

    • and -
  • Experience with Kronos or equivalent software for scheduling and timekeeping positions.

    • and -
  • Prior experience with medication policy, outcomes, and formulary management for select positions.

Physical Requirements:

Interact with others requiring employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
