Job Summary
The City-County Archives assists agencies within the City of Indianapolis/Marion County enterprise in the creation, use, access, storage, and disposition of local government records. The City-County Archives is a new and rapidly growing repository for City & County materials. The OFM archives intern will work with the Archivist to process, inventory, and archive newly accessioned materials; they will learn how to arrange and describe archival materials. This position will have the opportunity to work on reference questions, learn about state retention and compliance, research the history of local government, and participate in engagement and outreach activities.

Position Responsibilities
Identify and complete one major project, such as archiving a collection
Process, inventory, and archive accessioned collections
Write a finding aid for archived collections
Complete reference question work
Learn about the Indiana Archives and Record Administration’s retention schedules
Participate in the accession process
Research the history of local government and departmental changes over time
Participate in outreach and engagement activities with staff and with the public
Qualifications
Graduate and undergraduate students studying history, political science, museum studies, anthropology, historic preservation, urban planning, or library science are ideal candidates for this internship. Requires excellent writing and communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently. General knowledge of archives records management and the history of Indianapolis is preferred. Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
