Queen's Health System Coordinator, ECMO (Full-Time, Day, 40) in Honolulu, Hawaii
RESPONSIBILITIES
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinates activities surrounding the operations of the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program.
• Participates in the assessment and evaluation of staff and program performance.
• Serves as a liaison between ECMO-Trained Registered Nurses & Respiratory Therapists, Perfusion, Department Leadership, Physicians, and Hospital Administration.
• Plans, coordinates, and collaborates with team members in the development and implementation of effective staff education, patient education, and patient care programs.
• Facilitates the management of the ECMO patient population to promote efficient, cost-effective, quality care to both the patient and the institution.
• Ensures compliance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines and other regulatory agencies.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking,
• Frequent: standing, sitting, walking.
• Occasional: pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds of force, carrying the usual weight of 10 pounds up to 25 pounds, stooping/bending, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, squatting, twisting body, lifting the usual weight of 25 pounds with assistance, reaching above, at, and below shoulder level.
• Infrequent: repetitive arm/hand motions.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
• Exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and communicable diseases.
• Work environment is fast-paced due to multiple demands.
• Requires the ability to flex hours to meet department needs.
• Requires some outer island travel.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• Current Hawaii State license as a Registered Nurse.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• Current BLS certification
• Current ACLS certification.
B. EXPERIENCE:
• Three (3) years Cardiac Intensive Cardiac Unit (ICU) nursing experience
• Prior experience with leading teams and program development.
• Experience with the setup, priming, and initiation of centrifugal pump-based ECMO, VAD, and Cardio-pulmonary equipment preferred.
• Experience with both veno-arterial, veno-venous, and hybrid modes of ECMO support preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of ELSO Guidelines for ECMO programs preferred.
• Strong leadership abilities demonstrated through communication, education, and management preferred.
