Job Summary

The NERC Ratings Compliance & Standards - Principal Staff Engineer is responsible for maintaining LIPA compliance with NERC FAC-008 Facility Ratings for all LIPA Bulk Electric System (BES) facilities and elements. This includes recommending and implementing internal process control including industry standard best practices. This position offers leadership opportunities on various NERC Facility Ratings initiatives and represents PSEGLI/LIPA in various key internal and external stakeholder committees. This position will work closely and collaboratively with Transmission Operations, Asset Management, Projects & Construction, OH and UG Division, Transmission, Protection and Substation Engineering, and Transmission Planning groups in an effort to maintain NERC FAC-008 compliance.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and manage the process of facilitating NERC FAC-008 compliance with various groups in the company.

  • Ensure all existing ratings and new ratings implementation process are accurate by performing field equipment verification.

  • Identify any changes related to the LIPA's BES Facility Ratings.

  • Maintain all documentation related to LIPA's BES Facility Ratings, including creating/revising procedures, process documents and guidelines, including developing new process, procedure and manual documents based on best practices.

  • Ensure documentation is maintained in Audit Ready Condition.

  • Assisting in the management of upcoming ambient-adjusted ratings (AAR) implementation.

  • Work with internal interfaces and enhance group effectiveness by resolving disputes and removing roadblocks related to BES Facility Ratings.

  • Recommend and implement NERC best practices and strategic enhancements involving people, processes and technology to strengthen FAC-008 compliance.

  • Participate in external working groups and task forces at NERC, NPCC and NYISO, etc.

  • Support storm restoration activities, as needed.

Job Specific Qualifications

(Note: Current PSEGLI employees must meet PSEGLI Grade 28 Engineer matrix requirements in addition to required years of professional experience listed below)

Required

BS Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering.

Minimum of 6 years' experience in System Operations and/or Transmission/Distribution system. Knowledge of equipment, generation, substation, transmission and distribution system

Good understanding of FERC, NERC, NPCC and NYISO reliability standards

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Pl Process books

Excellent verbal and written communication, ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders.

Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making and project management skills

Results oriented, adaptable and focused on seeking successful outcomes

Ability to perform complex technical assignments requiring considerable knowledge of engineering and regulatory/legal principles in Facility Ratings

Ability to represent PSEGLI and LIPA with external constituent groups and other industry forums, on and off Long Island

Experience leading a technical team with major accountabilities. Demonstrated leadership on high visibility projects or functions

Effective problem-solving and decision-making; strong planning and organizing skills; must be adaptable and be results-oriented

Must possess and maintain a valid US driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driving history

Desired

Experience with document management systems, enterprise asset management systems (EAMS), AutoCAD, and utility rating software

Experience in interpreting electrical construction drawings, codes and standards. Familiarity with NERC FAC-008 standard and PSEG LI Facility Ratings internal control processes

Experience supporting regulatory compliance requirements related to NERC, NPCC or NYISO

Engineering in Training Certificate
