Student Involvement and Leadership Engagement Coordinator

The Student Involvement and Leadership Engagement Coordinator will serve as the coordinator of student engagement experience at SUU. This position will hire, train, direct, supervise, mentor, and lead the Engagement Ambassador Program. The Bird Perks incentive program, and the Thunder Crew Student Section, as well as other student driven initiatives and events through the Student Involvement and Leadership (STIL) Center. This position works closely with the various departments across campus to enhance student involvement and student engagement, and more.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Recruit, hire, onboard, and train the 80+ Engagement Ambassadors with mentorship, weekly meetings, ongoing check-ins, etc.

• Recruit, hire, onboard, and train the Thunder Crew student leadership team with mentorship, weekly meetings, ongoing check-ins, etc.

• Oversee the software, functionality, troubleshooting, and rollout for the Bird Perks incentive program to tally and manage student engagement points. This includes the marketing of the program to the first-year students (Thunder U and the ACES) and continuing students through traditional marketing means.

• Purchase, manage, and distribute the "swag" incentives that are used for the Bird Perks program to meet the needs of what will motivate students to attend events.

• Oversee the Bird Perks event list and calendar, criteria for being a Bird Perk event, the process for applying for a Bird Perk + event, and helping administer the event attendance rosters to mark off student attendance in the overall hub for points.

• Approve timesheets for Engagement Ambassadors and manage a system that helps students sign up for specific events and verify their hours that they have attended and engaged in.

• Purchase swag, organize themes, games, throw outs, and overall develop a culture of thunderbird spirit at athletic games that increase the likelihood that students will engage in the game day experience.

• Plan and execute retreats, trainings, weekly meetings for the Engagement Ambassadors and Thunder Crew students at large

• Serve as a liaison to the SUU Athletics Department to help carry out the MOU with SUU Athletics regarding the student section, attending game day operation meetings, be a contributing part to the fan experience at games, etc.

• Help oversee STIL at large programming (Thunder U, Homecoming Week, Founders Week, etc.), training, meetings, retreats, etc. for all students within the STIL Center and campus at large.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.

• Experience in large student programming.

• Experience in student organization advising.

• Ability to work with students, faculty, staff and administrative personnel.

• Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality in records and communication.

• Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills.

• Ability to oversee a large budget.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience and strength in Google Suite

• Knowledge of student development theories

• Adaptable and willing to be flexible with event changes and demands

• Experience with student athletic sections and school spirit programming

• Experience with contracting and working with agents and outside entertainers/companies

• Strength in organization and ability to work with many campus partners.
