Primary Function:

Tend to fabricating machines such as band saws, shears, rolls, brakes, lasers, water jet, plasma, and forming machines used to that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Be able to assist, or learn to, operate various manual and CNC machines in the Material Prep Department, such as: Band Saws, Press Brake, Plate Rolls, Water Jet, Plasma Table and Laser.

Machine Operator I:

Be able to assist, or learn to, operate assorted hand tools, including grinders, bevellers, and precision measuring tools.

Have some amount, or begin to develop, a working knowledge of drawings, sketches, specifications and be able to produce work that meet those specifications.

Must be able to become forklift certified, able to understand and use appropriate rigging techniques and trained in bridge crane operation.

Be able to lift up to 50 pounds using correct lifting techniques, have good manual dexterity, vision and hearing.

Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.

Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.

Positions work piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade.

Pushes button or depresses pedal to activate machine.

Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.

Measures work piece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.

Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece.

Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces.

Other duties may be assigned.

Machine Operator II:

Assist or operate various CNC machines in the Material Prep Department, such as, Band Saws, Press Brake, Plate Rolls, Water Jet, Plasma Table and Laser. Also, operates assorted hand tools, including grinders, bevellers, and precision measuring tools.

Has a working knowledge of drawings, sketches, specifications, and other means to produce quality parts.

Needs to work with a high degree of safety in a team player atmosphere with little supervision.

Must also operate forklifts, be able to lift up to 50 pounds using correct lifting techniques, have good manual dexterity, vision and hearing.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The job may require climbing f ladders and/or stairs. The employee will often lift heavy pieces of metal, work with arms overhead, torso twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, often for extended periods; the employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move weight above 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include strong visual acuity (with or without correction), color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Long hours (10 or more) are often scheduled, and job may require overtime and travel.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, loud noises, tripping hazards, exposure to sparks, welding arc, and open flame. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, mild industrial chemicals, inclement weather, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
